4.13 crore beneficiaries did not fill the cylinder even once – In the last five years, 4.13 crore beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjala Yojana have not filled their cylinders even once. The Central Government gave this information in the Parliament on Monday. He also informed that 7.67 crore beneficiaries have received only one cylinder. This question was asked by the Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge.
New Delhi: As many as 4.13 crore beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjala Yojana (PMUY) have not filled their cylinders even once in the last five years, the Union government told Parliament on Monday. Along with this, 7.67 crore beneficiaries got only one cylinder. This information was given by Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameshwar Teli in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
Leader of Opposition in the Upper House, Mallikarjan Kharge, had sought from the central government the details of the PMYUY beneficiaries who had or had not filled their cylinders even once in the last five years. Giving the data, Teli said that between 2017-18, 0.46 crore PMUY beneficiaries did not fill a single cylinder, while 1.19 crore beneficiaries refilled a cylinder.

According to them, 1.24 crore in 2018-19, 1.41 crore in 2019-20, 0.10 crore in 2020-21 and 0.92 crore in 2021-22 did not fill the cylinder even once. 2.90 crore cylinders were refilled only once in 2018-19, 1.83 crore in 2019-20, 0.67 crore in 2020-21 and 1.08 crore in 2021-22.
2.11 crore domestic LPG consumers did not refill any cylinder during FY 2021-22, while 2.91 crore domestic LPG consumers refilled their cylinders only once.
According to Teli, several factors influence household LPG consumption, such as dietary habits, family size, cooking habits, cost and availability of alternative fuels.

He said that the government keeps increasing the price of domestic LPG according to the needs of the consumers. He said that the allowable grant amount is deposited in the account of the eligible beneficiaries.
The Union Minister said that the government has announced a fixed subsidy of Rs 200 per 14.2 kg cylinder for 12 refills per year for the year 2022-23 for PMUY beneficiaries from May 21, 2022.
Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in May 2016 to provide clean fuel like LPG to rural and backward households, especially those who use traditional fuels like wood, coal, cow dung etc. . Pradhan Mantri Ujola Yojana (PMUY) was launched as a flagship scheme for this purpose. According to the ministry, the use of traditional fuels has adverse effects on the health of rural women as well as on the environment.
